Patti,

Wanted to let you know that Chris decided we would name the puppy Rowyn (pronounced like Rowan - meaning "little red one", which we thought was appropriate for a red merle border collie.  He wanted a Gaelic name as well.)  He decided to spell it Ro"wyn" (instead of Rowan) after his mother Bran"wynn", which we also felt was appropriate :) .......I just thought we'd let you know.  Hope everything is going well!

Patti, sorry it took me so long to get back to you.  We don’t mind at all if you post the update.  Bandaras is still  doing well and already growing and he loves to play outside and run around inside and then all of the sudden he will just drop off to sleep wherever he happens to be when he runs out of gas.  He minds really well for such a little guy and he is still doing well on the potty training.  He is a wonderful mixture of energy and spunk and sweetness.  We are slowly introducing him to our cats.  I think it really helps the way you take the puppies out with the mom’s to go potty because you could tell when we brought him home that he had the general idea already.  We appreciate that and we are thankful to have him be part of our family. We just love him!

Overdue update

by Patti Kowitz on 05/31/10

Good morning and Happy Memorial Day to all

Sorry it has been so long since I added a blog entry, my computer really dosn't like this program and tends to freeze up when I try to update my website. So my last blog entry, which was nice and long, never got posted.  So we try again.

Our puppies are doing great. They have started eating solid food, which they love, and have been outside a couple times. It has been too hot here for them to be out for long, but at least a littel while at feeding time is a welcome treat for them. They are at their most fun age now, toddling around and discovering everything new. Even grass can be scarry for them, but after a few trips out, they begin to relax and explore. Soon they will be getting into trouble and having a blast. They have gotten to meet all of our adult dogs now, some like them, some try to ignore them. Koda, as always, is facinated by the babies and will make a great babysitter in a few weeks, when they get a little more confident.

I hope you all have a safe and fun filled weekend!

Puppy parties

by Patti Kowitz on 05/13/10

Good morning!

As always the pups are growing at amazing speed. They are getting plump, Nipper is such a great mom. We trimmed thier claws a couple days ago, they were starting to scratch mom's tummy. They are now 10 days old and should begin to open thier eyes on the next few days.

We love to have evening puppy parties. We put them all in a laundry basket, bring them into the living room, and give each one a few minutes of snuggle time while we watch a movie. It really gets fun when they get bigger, are more interactive with us, and start climing out of the basket and toddling all around the room.

We took our little mirical pup to the vet on Monday to get his stiches out. Other than a scar instead of a belly button, you will never be able to tell anything was ever wrong with him. He will be off his antibiotics in a few days.

3 of our pups have new homes waiting, and I continue to get new calls every day. I always have a good time making new friends through the pups!

Wednesday

by Patti Kowitz on 05/05/10

Today is a good day to plant the garden, don't you think?  It was so windy last nite we could hardly stand to be outside, which means now I have to plant the whole thing myself, no helpers. Oh well, I have plenty of time for it today.

The pups are doing great. Mom is now well rested from delivery and wanting to go outside to 'watch' the horses. She would love to go bring them in for me if only I would open the gate.

Our little mirical pup is doing great. Considering his injury, and the fact I didn't think he had a chance, he has proved it's always worth a try. Today he put up such a struggle about taking his meds that I got a good taste of it too! He is strong and healthy, and so far, no sign of infection! We have named him Grant, after the vet that put him all back together for me.  Keep rooting for him, I think he has quite a fan club out there!

Break time over, time to go back to planting green beans.

They're here!!

by Patti Kowitz on 05/03/10

Good morning, well, just as I suspected, Nipper was in labor as I was writing yesterdays post. She started delivering her pups at 2:30 in the afternoon, finishing aour 5:30. All went well until the final pup, unlucky #7, mom got a little too ambitious on clean-up and tore his umbilical cord off and his belly open. Poor little guy had to have emergency surgery at less than one hour old. So far he is doing well, if he is able to fight off infection, he will make a full recovery.

We have 7 pups, 3 are girls and 4 are boys.

I hope to get some good picutres of them posted in the next day or two.

Waiting for puppies

by Patti Kowitz on 05/02/10

Good morning, today is Sunday May 2nd 2010.

I have decided to start a blog, to share with all my dog loving friends out there about life with a house full of border collies.

Didn't get much sleep last nite. Nipper is due to have her litter some time this week. She was very restless all nite, panting, whining, pacing, she didn't get much sleep either.

This morining I moved the 8 new ducklings I bought last week (yes, for the dogs to herd of course) from the bathtub. They can go to the brooder cage in the barn today. A bathtub is a great place to raise babies, easy to keep clean!! I then gave 5 Border Collies thier monthly bath (a month over due) and then scrubbed and diried the tub out so now we can line it with news papers and use it as a whelping box for Nipper to deliver in. Yes, I do have another bathtub for human use, in case you are wondering!! This one happens to be just off the kitchen, and convenient for me to keep an eye on progress all day.

Now its time to head to the barn to make room for those little ducks! And of course, keep one eye on Nipper today.

I hope you will enjoy my little blog, check back now and then to see whats new, and leave a positive comment or two if you wish.  Enjoy a  beutiful spring day!
